01 / Story

Industrial plastic became collectible furniture.

Giulio Castelli founded Kartell to apply industrial plastics to useful modern objects. Working with leading designers, the company moved from automotive accessories and housewares into moulded furniture and lighting.

1949
Kartell is founded in Milan.
1963
Anna Castelli Ferrieri joins and shapes the furniture direction.
1999
The transparent La Marie chair demonstrates single-mould polycarbonate furniture.
