A textile company built around bold pattern.

Armi Ratia founded Marimekko after commissioning artists to create prints for her husband’s textile company. Fashion shows demonstrated how the fabrics could live, and graphic patterns became the brand’s lasting language.

  1. The first Marimekko fashion show is held.

  2. Maija Isola creates the Unikko poppy pattern.

  3. A Helsinki printing factory still produces selected fabrics.
