01 / Story

From a bicycle route to a bag pattern.

Bike messenger Rob Honeycutt began sewing bags in San Francisco under the name Scumbags. Renamed Timbuk2, the company turned the three-panel messenger into an urban-carry signature and later added backpacks and travel bags.

  1. The first messenger bags are sewn in San Francisco.

  2. The company adopts the Timbuk2 name.

  3. Custom messenger production remains a distinct part of a mixed global range.

Do not extend the local origin of selected custom bags to the full catalogue. Most current sewn products are imported, including production in Vietnam.
